Program Structure

Members of the Leadership Development Program (LDP) are expected to participate and lead various activities throughout their time spent at Southern Illinois University. These activities are designed to engage the student in a challenging environment that promotes their leadership development and success. As the student develops in the program, more challenging requirements are given to them to ensure their continued growth.

Participate in “Team Building Week”

At the start of every year, the LDP embarks on a week long journey designed to bring us together as a team. You will learn how to lead yourself, lead trough example, be a teammate and much more. Is a moment to understand LDP culture and the values that guide our success.

Organize and Lead Projects

You will have the chance to organize and lead various projects, assigned and volunteered, throughout the year. These projects give you the opportunity to practice your leadership skills in a safe environment and allow your team to identify your strengths and weaknesses, as well as provide coaching to improve yourself.

Lead a Registered Student Organization (RSO)

You are expected to be part of a SIUC Registered Student Organization. Over the course of your first year at LDP, you should have selected at least one RSO which you intend to join and lead.

Mentorship Program

You will have a second year member as a mentor who will meet with you on a regular basis to discuss, coach, and teach you leadership, academic study skills, and life skills. It’s also possible to have mentorship from our sponsors and other people who supports the program. You will learn from the best.

Members enrolled in the LDP are expected to adhere to a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 while at Southern Illinois University.

Weekly Meetings

The team wide meetings take place every Thursday morning at 6:30 am in D-102. These meetings serve as a “Leadership Lab” where one member of the group or an outside speaker comes in and gives a presentation on a leadership skill. We also have meetings 5:30 am at the REC center where we shape ourselves mentally and physical.
